    Operating Room: Circulating Registered Nurse

    JOB SUMMARY
    The Operating Room Nurse is responsible for keeping patients safe during surgery by providing care before, during, or after surgeries. They are tasked with ensuring operating rooms are clean and sterile while preparing for and following procedures. Confirm tools and equipment are sterile and ready, hands tools to the doctor during the surgery, and perform other duties as needed inside the operating room.

    DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES (General requirements listed are not an exhaustive statement of duties, responsibilities, or requirements):
    1. Provides surgical patients with perioperative care in recovery, procedures, and operating rooms.
    2. Stocks operating rooms with sterile surgical equipment, linens, and supplies.
    3. Prepares patients for surgery by cleaning and disinfecting areas to be operated on.
    4. Assists surgeons during surgical procedures.
    5. Applies sterile techniques in handling medical instruments and equipment pre-, during, and post-surgery.
    6. Collaborates with surgical teams and other medical professionals on patient medication and post-surgery care.
    7. Updates patient files and medical records.
    8. Assists with the ordering, maintenance, and safe storage of surgical equipment and supplies.
    9. Provides safe, therapeutic, and quality patient care to the intra-operative patient in a timely manner utilizing nursing care standards.
    10. Prepares for the scheduled procedures by pulling cases using surgeon’s preference cards to assure that all necessary supplies, instruments, and equipment are available.
    11. Sets-up required operative fields, arranging instrumentation, equipment, and supplies as appropriate for the assigned case according to the surgeon’s preference card.
    12. Manages the operative field during the surgical procedure in a manner that assures maintenance of the sterile field.  Anticipates the needs of the surgeon and other members of the surgical team.  Handles specimens appropriately.
    13. Prepares contaminated and clean instruments and supplies utilized in the surgical suite and transports instrumentation to the decontamination area for processing and sterilization.
    14. Assists, when necessary, in the disinfecting, cleaning and sterilization of instruments, equipment, and supplies and in operating room turn-over, and terminal cleaning.
    15. Communicates appropriate information to surgeons and anesthesia providers concerning patient care.
    16. Completes intra-operative procedures safely and documents all patient information according to established standards of care, policies, and procedures.
    17. Demonstrates complete understanding of established emergency procedures for the Center and performs effectively in emergency situations.
    18. Participates in the orientation of nursing and ancillary staff, if applicable.
    19. Follows proper procedures regarding blood and body fluid precautions, handling of hazardous waste and sharps, and use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
    20. Assists in any area of the Center and/or flexes work hours to meet the needs of the Center.

    1. Knowledge of perioperative nursing principles.
    2. Knowledge of aseptic techniques and infection control principles.
    3. Able to perform effectively in highly stressful situations.

    5. Strong communication skills.
    6. Accuracy, attention to detail, timeliness, and organization skills.
    7. Cooperative work attitude toward and with colleagues, management, patients, visitors, and physicians.
    8. Ability to promote favorable facility image with physicians, patients, and general public.
    9. Respects patient’s right to privacy and dignity and maintains confidentiality of all Center and patient information.
    10. Assists in any area of the Center and/or flexes work hours to meet the needs of the Center.
    11. Attendance, punctuality, ability to follow instructions and meet deadlines.
    EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
    1. Wyoming licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse, Active and in good standing. (CNOR certification preferred.)
    2. Prefer minimum one (1)-year experience as a Perioperative Nurse, scrubbing skills preferred.
    3. Knowledge of surgical instruments and equipment, as well as sterile techniques.
    4. Current BLS, PALS and ACLS
    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
    1. Demonstrates ability to lift and/or carry heavy loads when transferring patients and/or moving equipment.
    2. Ability to stand and/or walk for long periods of time.
    3. Visual and auditory acuity adequate for frequent use of computers, telephone and use of other office and/or medical equipment.
    OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE:
    1. Category III exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may encounter chemical hazards
