Part-Time Endoscopy Technician
JOB SUMMARY: Prepares and maintains instruments, equipment, and sterile environments necessary for gastroenterology procedures. Reports To: Director of Nursing Supervises: None |
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES (General requirements listed are not an exhaustive statement of duties, responsibilities, or requirements) : 1. Responsible for maintaining endoscopic suite and supplies (i.e., ordering/managing outdated supplies, etc.). 2. Cleans and reprocesses instruments, equipment and supplies efficiently and properly between cases and at the end of the schedule. 3. Immediately removes any damaged/malfunctioning instruments or equipment and reports to Materials Management Coordinator and Director of Nursing. 4. Able to operate Steris. 5. Monitors and documents all biological testing and immediately reports any discrepancies or positive results to appropriate individual. 6. Sets up and assists physicians with endoscopies. Cleans and reprocesses the scopes following the endoscopies. Handles specimens appropriately. 7. Follows proper procedures regarding blood and body fluid precautions, handling of hazardous waste and sharps, and use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). 8. Provides logistical and technical support for laparoscopic and endoscopic surgeries. 9. Sets up, troubleshoots, and maintains all minimally invasive equipment, including video systems, before, during and after surgeries to quickly resolve issues. 10. Manages single routine procedures to include all tower functions, pre-operative set up, knowledge and application of instrumentation. 11. Assists and interacts with physicians and other clinical staff members as requested to ensure all preferences are met. 12. Completes all appropriate paper and electronic documentation forms. 13. Ensures that supplies are stocked and available as needed. 14. Cleans equipment and instruments at the end of each case, prepares equipment for the next case and appropriately disposes of all refuse. 15. Learns and adheres to all required policies, procedures, and clinical guidelines. |
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES: 1. Computer experience and an understanding of medical terminology 2. Strong communication skills 3. Accuracy, attention to detail, timeliness, and organization skills 4. Attendance, punctuality, ability to follow instructions and meet deadlines. 5. Cooperative work attitude toward and with colleagues, management, patients, visitors, and physicians 6. Ability to promote favorable facility image with physicians, patients, and general public. 7. Ability to make decisions and solve problems. |
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 1. Associate degree or certification as Medical Assist or Surgical Technologist or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred. 2. High school diploma or equivalent required 3. Current BLS or obtain certification. |
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 1. Ability to stand and/or walk for long periods of time 2. Visual and auditory acuity adequate for frequent use of computers, telephone and use of other office and/or medical equipment. |
OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE: Category III exposure to blood borne pathogens and may encounter chemical hazards |
