    Director Of Nursing – Full Time

    JOB SUMMARY
    The Director of Nursing is a member of the management and nursing team. The Director of Nursing will participate in planning, communicating, and supervising patient care and clinical staff, materials coordinator, and environmental services personnel. Provide optimal nursing care to the surgical patient in all areas and in accordance with established policies and procedures of the surgery center. Ensure policies are consistent with the overall philosophy and objectives of the surgery center and in compliance with federal and state standards and guidelines. Coordinate with surgery scheduling staff to ensure appropriate scheduling of surgical cases. Establish and maintain a positive and supportive work environment. The Director of Nursing will assume responsibility for personal growth and development.

    Reports To: Board of Managers

    Supervises: Nursing and ancillary clinical staff, environmental services technician, and materials management coordinator.
    DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES (General requirements listed are not an exhaustive statement of duties, responsibilities, or requirements):
    1. Work closely with the Administrator to establish, review and revise policies and procedures with the approval of the Continuous Quality Improvement Committee (CQI Committee) while assuring compliance with federal and state requirements and regulations (i.e., OSHA, CLIA, etc.).
    2. Consult with Surgical Center Medical Director regarding quality assurance and performance improvement (QAPI) measures, including complications, complaints, or deviations from standard of care.
    3. Lead, direct, and supervise nursing staff, including CRNAs, Registered Nurses, Surgical Technicians, and other clinical staff. Assume direct and indirect patient care.
    4. Check operating schedules in advance regarding approved procedures and make necessary adjustments in collaboration with CRNAs, nursing, schedule/receptionist and provider office managers and schedulers to ensure adequate coverage.
    5. Recruit and interview candidates in conjunction with the Administrator and relevant clinical department personnel. Work closely with the Administrator regarding employee hiring or termination.
    6. Collaborate with Administration, Business Manager, and nursing for new employee orientation.
    7. Arrange in-service programs and schedules educational staff meetings/huddles.
    8. Collaborate with anesthesia staff and nursing in monitoring, assigning, and/or providing relief coverage according to needs of the clinical areas. Manages and monitors overtime hours and communicates with the Administrator.
    9. Coordinate vacation and time off schedules with nursing, Administrator and Business Office Manager.
    10. Ensure required licenses (i.e., RN, LPN, CNA) and certifications (i.e., ACLS/PALS/BLS) are current.
    11. Develop and coordinate performance of annual evaluations and monitor job performance of clinical staff, in conjunction with nursing leaders, to confirm compliance with policies and job expectations. Defer clinical
    management and evaluation of CRNAs to the Medical Director when appropriate.
    12. Develop, maintain, and ensure proper lines of communication with physicians, ancillary staff, and other health care agencies. Monitor physician availability and communicate with physician office managers regarding schedule availability.
    13. Communicate with front office personnel regarding surgery scheduling
    14. Coordinate with surgeons, anesthesia personnel (MDs/CRNAs), and other healthcare providers to ensure seamless patient care.
    15. Oversee sterilization procedures for instruments, supplies, and storage of same in conjunction with OR Charge Nurse.
    16. Manage and monitor maintenance and repair of medical equipment.
    17. Work closely with the Administrator to ensure that fire drills for employees are scheduled; ensure pertinent inspections are up to date.
    18. Collaborate with Materials Management Coordinator regarding updates on equipment and new products.
    19. Implement QAPI activities by reviewing trends, patterns and concerns in the quality and appropriateness of patient care. Serve as a member of the CQI Committee. Compile and report quality and risk management summaries to the committee and prepare data and minutes.
    20. Coordinate and oversee employee injury/illness program. Coordinate with the Business Manager to assure all pertinent forms are completed and filled according to State and Federal Law.
    21. Review Incident/Occurrence Reports, complete investigative documentation as appropriate and forwards to Administrator and Medical Director for review.
    22. It is frequently necessary to perform duties beyond regular work hours. Additionally, it may be necessary to respond to calls after hours for directions/guidance. The director of Nursing will be available during hours of operation of the surgical center either by phone or in person, unless otherwise arranged, for coverage for clinical problems. Due to the nature of the Director of Nursing responsibilities, this position is challenging and time-consuming.
    23. Inform Administrator and/or Management team of activities, plans, and problems of assigned areas.
    24. Interact with surgical center staff, physicians, and their staff in a professional, courteous manner
    25. Collaborate with the Administrator and/or Management team on special projects and assignments.
    26. Perform other responsibilities as needed and requested by the Board of Managers.

    EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
    1. Bachelor’s degree in nursing required, master’s preferred.
    2. Current Wyoming RN licensure, active and in good standing.
    3. Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in ambulatory surgical services preferred and/or previous experience in hospital surgical services.
    4. Two (2) years of clinical management experience required.
    5. The successful candidate must have the ability to work independently as well as function within a team; analyze reports, determine priorities, and plan strategies.
    6. Current ACLS/PALS or obtain certification
    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
    1. Ability to lift fifty (50) pounds. Moving, lifting, or transferring of patients may involve lifting of up to fifty (50) pounds, as well as assist with weights of more than one hundred (100) pounds.
    2. Ability to stand for extended periods
    3. Visual and auditory acuity adequate for frequent use of computers, telephone, and use of other office and/or medical equipment.
    OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE:
    Category III exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may encounter chemical hazards
